• What is MessPatch Light?
  MessPatch Light is a basic, java-based, patch for Windows Live Messenger.
• What do I need to run MessPatch Light?
  In order to run MessPatch Light, you need Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed on your system. You need one of the following versions:
  JRE 6 (recommended), JRE 5, or J2SE 1.4.2
  
  Windows Vista users must use JRE 6.
• Why am I being asked to approve a security certificate?
  Any Java applet, such as MessPatch Light, has to be digitally signed in order to be able to modify files on your system. This does not make it a security threat. Rest assured MessPatch Light is 100% safe and will not harm your computer in any way. You must however, accept the security certificate in order for MessPatch Light to work.
• How do I know what version to select?
  You should select the version that matches the version of Windows Live Messenger installed on your system, which you can find out by selecting Help in the menubar and then choosing About Messenger.
• How do I restore Messenger?
  MessPatch Light creates backups of Messenger's original files before patching. If you would like to restore your original files, do the following:
  1. Close Messenger (signing out is not enough).
  2. Go to your Messenger directory (%ProgramFiles%\Windows Live\Messenger\ for version 8.5, %ProgramFiles%\MSN Messenger for previous versions).
  3. Delete msnmsgr.exe, msgsres.dll, and msidcrl40.dll.
  4. Rename msnmsgr.backup to msnmsgr.exe, msgsres.backup to msgsres.dll, and msidcrl40.backup to msidcrl40.dll.
• What is polygamy?
  If you lookup polygamy in a dictionary, you'll probably see a definition which reads "A form of bonding in which one individual has more than one mate." In the Messenger world however, the meaning is similar only twice as fun! Enabling polygamy allows you to run several instances of Messenger simultaneously, which lets you sign into multiple accounts. Now that's just neat!
• I'm using WLM 9 beta (14.0.5027.908) and the ad banner is not being removed!
  Windows Live Messenger build 14.0.5027.908 has some restrictions that prevent the patch from being able to mess around with the files like it should. As a side effect, the advertisement banner will not be removed from the contact list. The text advertisement in the conversation windows is removed with no problems though.
• Does MessPatch Light stop Messenger's Shared Folders?
  No it does not. Even after patching, Messenger's files will remain digitally signed and you will still be able to enjoy all of Messenger's features.
• Does MessPatch Light work with skins?
  Yes it does! Isn't that wonderful? Your ancestors had to suffer because of this but your lazy generation is just lucky.
• What is the difference between Mess Patch and MessPatch Light?
  MessPatch Light is a very basic, web-based, version of Mess Patch which offers a limited number of options. Mess Patch is a downloadable patch for Windows Live Messenger that has much more options including cosmetic tweaks and personalization options. Mess Patch however is version-specific, where as MessPatch Light is universal hence requires no updates and works for all versions.
